Fun Facts
Above all else, I am a writer at heart. I spend a lot of my free time drafting poems and short stories, and reading the work of those I admire! I've studied performance in a lot of realms, including performance art, theatrical acting, public speaking, and violin! I absolutely adore fashion, and I pride myself on my fun and stylish outfits. I love working with kids, as they are some of the only people who can match my boundless energy (and love of learning!)
About Me
I am a senior Creative Writing and Film Studies double major at Vanderbilt University. During my time here, I've competed on our rowing team, produced theatre shows, competed and researched for the debate team, and worked as a camp counselor. I hope to pursue my Master's in Language Arts and Education Policy through the KIPP Metro residency program while teaching in under-served communities. My ultimate goals are to start an independent production company for the creative work of minorities.
Experience
Through high school, I served as concert master, and spent a lot of time teaching younger students the violin. I've worked as an independent tutor for elementary students at various points in college, and taught creative writing workshops in high school. During my time with the debate team, I helped to teach local middle schoolers about the event and coordinate tournaments. I also regularly peer review other students' work, as it is my favorite way to spread my passion for writing!
Approach
I think the most important aspect of education is energy and motivation, and this is found by keeping students personally interested in the material! I try to incorporate fun exercises and an unwavering positive attitude into teaching, to keep them from becoming beaten down. I believe learning to be a passion as well as a discipline, so I think structuring lessons and the development of study skills should be accompanied by personal topics and constant humor!
