Fun Facts

There are very few things that I enjoy more than traveling to new or different places. This interest came into fruition last semester when I spent a semester halfway across the country in New Zealand. However, when I am not traveling I also enjoy playing sports, especially soccer, and going two-stepping at Billy Bobs.

About Me

I am a junior Economics and Political science double major at Texas Christian University. I currently have an overall GPA of 3.92 and a 4.0 GPA in Economics. After college I plan on going to graduate school for economics and then after that I would like to work with an international organization that provides aid to third world countries. I am in the John V. Roach Honors college and have been on the honors roll for every semester that I have attended Texas Christian University. After graduating I would like to go to graduate school for economics and possibly get a PhD.

Much of my tutoring experience has been in an informal setting. I tutored two people in AP Calculus in high school and one other person in AP Government. I did this primarily in my junior and senior years of high school. In college, I have not done tutoring through any services, but instead I usually help friends when it comes to economics and math classes. The classes that I have helped people with are Introductory and Intermediate Micro Economics as well as Calculus 2.

In my opinion, patience, explanation and doing practicing problems are the three keys to successful tutoring. Doing practice problems and reviewing concepts is the most important part of really coming to understand a subject. By going over problems one can really come to understand what parts of the material that they really understand and what areas they need to review. Once these problem areas are established then it is the tutors place to help explain. I do not think this should be done in a rhetorical manner in which the tutor talks the entire time, but instead in more of a back-and-forth where the other person asks questions. The most important aspect to my tutoring approach though is patience because oftentimes the concepts are not easy and take some time to understand.
