Fun Facts
Any of my clients learn quickly that I have a few animals – one dog, two cats, and a freshwater fish tank. These pets are like family, and they make a small, humble home in my one-bedroom apartment.
About Me
I am a PhD student at Georgia State University writing a dissertation on Postcolonial Literature. I've been a professor at GSU since 2012 teaching English 1101, English 1102, and World Literature 2110. My goal is to finish my dissertation and graduate in 2019.
Experience
I earned my BA in English from Valdosta State University in 2008, and, after a short break, began my graduate school career at GSU in 2011. Since then, I've earned my MA in Literary Studies form GSU in 2015 and reached All-But-Dissertation (ABD) status in late 2017. I have been teaching English 1101, English 1102, and World Literature 2110 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant: Instructor of Record at GSU since 2012 and tutored at GSU's Writing Studio from 2012-2015.
Approach
I have always admired intellectual curiosity, and it's something that I believe every person possesses in some shape or form. I approach teaching any subject on the principle that every person's intellectual curiosity is an avenue to learning one's educational and professional potential. I attempt to light that path by maintaining consistent expectations, allowing room for failure, and encouraging introspective learning alongside our curriculum.

PhdEnglish Tutoring
I have been teaching college-level English classes since 2012, including English 1101 and 1102. I worked as a writing tutor for three years at GSU's Writing Studio, and held the position of Lead Writing Tutor at a learning facility in Alpharetta for almost five years. Finally, I have also taught and guest lectured in several other classes at varying colleges at GSU, presented at academic journal conferences, and mentored other graduate students/graduate teaching assistants through pedagogical and degree-oriented processes.
Literature Tutoring
Alongside entry-level English courses (1101, 1102), I have taught English 2110 (World Literature), taken over 60 hours of graduate-level literature courses, guest lectured in several junior- and sophomore-level literature courses (such as Caribbean Literature, Science Fiction, and Post-War Literature). My concentration in Postcolonial Literature further qualifies me to teach and tutor in British and American Literature.
AP English Tutoring
As a high school student, I had the opportunity to take both AP Language and AP Literature, earning passing scores on both tests while earning college credit along the way. Having since worked through almost two graduate degrees and taught years' worth of entry-level English courses, I have born witness to the effect AP courses have on college students and acquired a far better understanding of what criteria AP curriculum requires. I am of particular help when it comes to writing test essays in terms of content, writing process, and time strategy.
AP History Tutoring
As a high school student, I had the opportunity to take both AP US History and AP European History, where I earned passing grades on both tests while earning college credit along the way. Though my educational, pedagogical, and professional focus is in English, Writing, and Literature, none of my experience at these levels has been divorced of significant historical contexts integral to mine and the discourse's intellectual development. As such and given my experience as an AP History student, I am well qualified to assist AP History students in writing history essays, understanding context, and analyzing texts in order to produce well-written and successful AP exams.

Though my educational, pedagogical, and professional focus is in English, Writing, and Literature, none of my experience at these levels has been divorced of significant historical contexts integral to mine and the discourse's intellectual development. As such and given my inevitable experience as both a literature and history student, I am well qualified to assist History students in writing history essays, understanding context, and analyzing texts in order to produce well-written and successful AP exams.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
As a writing tutor, reading comprehension is essential as a means of bridging the contents of one's ideas to comprehensible prose. More specifically, while working as a Lead Writing Tutor at a tutoring company, I was tasked with tutoring Advanced Writing, Writing, and Reading programs, all of which included elements of reading comprehension. Alongside my skills as a tutor, teacher, and professor, reading comprehension is a particular skill that I am well qualified to assist in developing.
SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
As a college professor, I've had the privilege to create and develop verbal and written exams, many of which were inspired by my standardized testing experience. While in high school, I had the opportunity to take AP exams, SAT, PSAT, and (later) the GRE. Across every one of these well-known exams, verbal and written content were by far my strongest suit. As such, as a writing assessor, I am well qualified to assist SAT Prep in Verbal and Writing skills in a way that will not only boost SAT scores (especially given the opportunity to write essays as part of the exam) but further develop writing and verbal skills in general.
Writing Tutoring
As a high school student, I excelled in Honor's English and went on to complete and pass both AP Language and AP Literature classes. Since then, I have earned a BA in English and an MA in Literary Studies and reached ABD in a Literary Studies PhD. Alongside reading, analysis, and research, Writing characterizes my training and my teaching. As a result, I am very capable of advancing a client's writing – be it analytical, research, creative, persuasive, etc. – using my experience and skills acquired through years of tutoring reading and writing, teaching entry-level English courses at the college level, and producing advanced writing of my own through professional conferences and committees.

Writing Tutoring
My years' worth of teaching writing, tutoring writing, and creating writing content at the college and primary education levels qualifies me to tutor writing across most disciplines. Furthermore, my experience has afforded me the ability to tutor writing on several levels, from basic help to advanced guidance, from serious prose to inspirational creativity.
Writing Advance Tutoring
My years' worth of teaching writing, tutoring writing, and creating writing content at the college and primary education levels qualifies me to tutor writing across most disciplines. As a graduate student, I have had to endure particular training in writing as things like master's theses, prospectuses, and dissertations are markedly different texts than the essays we are all familiar with by the time we reach the graduate level even. This experience has made for great training to tutor advanced writing, particularly in academia.
