Fun Facts
I'm an absolute travel nerd! I studied abroad my second year in college. There was something incredibly cool about learning about the pioneers of psychology and psychiatry outside of the very first mental hospitals! I also love training horses, barrel racing, rock climbing and anything to do with music.
About Me
I am finishing my last 12 elective credits at the University of Wisconsin: River Falls online while I am living in Denton. I am graduating with a degree in Psychology with a Mental Health emphasis. I am graduating with honors as a part of Psi Chi! I also had the opportunity to be a peer mentor for incoming freshman within the psychology/neuroscience department at UWRF. I am planning to earn my Masters in School Counseling to someday be a guidance counselor.
Experience
As a peer mentor, I was able to work one on one with students. I also held study sessions for the general psychology class, as well as went into the classroom to hold "Thematic Team Meetings" and chat with students about options in the field of psychology, and how to succeed during their time at UWRF. I also work in a domestic violence shelter where I am able to work with children going through difficult situations, offering them support and guidance.
Approach
I did not succeed in high school, I felt as though I was not smart enough to use myself to my full potential. If it weren't for one faculty member who believed in me, I don't think I would have graduated and gone to college! Being in college, especially in a field I am so passionate about, revealed my true potential to me and made me want to help other students who may be struggling as well. As a tutor or mentor, it is my goal to build the student up and focus on strengths instead of weaknesses.
