Fun Facts
Hi there! My name is Alyse. I love exploring new areas and specifically seeing art and architecture. I enjoy watching pretty much any sport, but my favorite to play is basketball. Running is one of my favorite things to do- good for the mind, body and soul.
About Me
My passion is nurturing child development. To put it simply, I love kids! I have an extensive background as a nanny and I graduated from San Diego State University in May of 2021 where I attained my bachelor degree for teaching elementary education with a 3.7 GPA. I am currently enrolled in a dual teaching credential/ master degree program as a student at Point Loma Nazarene University. My ultimate goal is to be a teacher- either elementary school or middle/ high school math.
Experience
As a student at Mesa College, I took a summer college course to tutor fellow college students. I also did another tutor training to assist with learning to read. I spent that semester assisting second grade students learning to read. I can say, without a doubt, that that was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I've also done one-on-one tutoring multiple times with young students to help learn to read and write.
Approach
The most important concept I learned from my tutor training is that the student should always be the one with the pen or pencil in hand. What I mean by that is that they should be the one solving the problem, not the tutor. Often times the tutor will want to show or prove that they know how to find the solution, but that is not the purpose of the session. The tutor should be there for moral support and guidance to help build confidence in the ability to find the solution to the problem.
