Fun Facts
It may be a given that as a literature student I am a bit of a bookworm, but I am particularly fond of Victorian novels. There is something about the manner in which Victorian authors such as Dickens and the Brontes delve into the psychological lives of their characters that I find incredibly fascinating and intriguing.
About Me
I am a second year master's student in English and American Literature at NYU. In the fall of 2013, I was awarded the Wickham Moore Scholarship, which is awarded to the four English master's students entering their second year of study with the highest academic achievement. When I graduate, I hope to pursue a degree in Secondary Education, and ultimately become a high school English teacher.
My experience as an SAT tutor for low-income high school students through the New York Cares Kaplan program has given me the practical skills I need to work one-on-one with adolescents. My work as a tutor has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had, and it has solidified my desire to pursue a career-path as a high school teacher.
Being a tutor for Frog Tutoring would provide me with the opportunity to gain even more experience working with adolescents, and the training that I would receive as a tutor at the company would allow me to become more skilled as a tutor and mentor and help me reach my goal of becoming a high school teacher.
As a tutor for Frog Tutoring, I would be eager to help students cultivate an appreciation for reading and writing, which has been instrumental in my own academic and intellectual life. Furthermore, I would encourage students to work especially hard in the areas in which they have most trouble, for in my experience, once students are able to master the particular skills that are a struggle for them, they experience an immense sense of achievement and self-confidence. I would feel privileged to contribute to the students’ sense of fulfillment as their tutor.
