About Me
I am a first year Social Work graduate student at chicago">Loyola University Chicago with a 4.0 GPA interning at a high school on the southside of Chicago as a counselor to the students. I spent my undergraduate studies as a Psychology Major and Italian Studies Minor at the University of Notre Dame. I was on the Dean's List five of my eight semesters and graduated Cum Laude in May 2013. I love children and my ultimate goal is to pursue a career working with and helping children learn, grow, and become confident individuals.
During high school I regularly babysat, often assisting the children with their homework and studies. Additionally, during college I was a mentor for a high school sophomore in the foster care system who I met with twice weekly. During our meetings, I would assist my mentee with homework questions, assuring she understood her completed assignments. The past two summers I was a camp counselor for children in need and while they did not have assigned homework, I believe I was a chicago">tutor for them, guiding them throughout the day and answering their several thought-provoking, and sometimes very philosophical, questions to the best of my ability.
In elementary and middle school, I rarely enjoyed studying because I saw it as "work." However, I learned to appreciate the knowledge I was gaining and began focusing more on my studies with the ultimate goal of attending my family's alma mater. I had a goal of attending Notre Dame and I was going to achieve it. During my time at Notre Dame, I took a class called "Motivation and Academic Learning." I learned the importance of self-motivation and learning as an idea of gaining knowledge, not as the "work" I saw it as as a child. I encourage questions, self-motivation, and goal setting as I help students enjoy the material they are studying by taking the approach that gaining knowledge and "growing your brain" is fun, not work!
