Fun Facts

I usually spend my free time reading, writing, playing video games or attending concerts and music festivals (I've seen over 280 artists live!). I joined a fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, during my time at Rowan, and benefited greatly from the memories, networking opportunities and community service in and around Glassboro, NJ.

About Me

I recently received a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Rowan and I'm beginning the journey to a Master's in Scientific Writing in Fall 2019 at Temple University. Afterwards, I'd like to work in policy-making to see tangible, positive changes for the environment; or in popular science writing, to educate the general public on global issues. I plan to have all of this lead up to an opportunity for me to do a/some TED Talks on subjects relating to biology/ecology/environmental science.

Experience

In high school I was a member of the NHS, but did very little in the way of tutoring directly. It wasn't until my sophomore year of college that I was introduced to the Biology Peer Mentor Program, which I was a part of for two and a half years. This program had me overseeing a group of about a half dozen freshmen and transfer students each semester; my duties included acclimating them to the campus/major, helping them with studies, and generally being somebody to talk to and spend time with.

Approach

Although I've struggled with math throughout my academic career, I've recently gotten great improvement in the subject through my GRE studying, as the exam tests cumulative knowledge. With that being said, I typically like to treat mentees as peers to one degree or another, and this usually allows for more clear and useful conversations when studying. I additionally believe asking open-ended questions to students and having them work through it (with guidance) is the most effective way to learn.

Biochemistry Tutoring

I took Intro to Biochem and Biochem at Rowan. Both courses had a rigorous laboratory portion. I scored a B in both courses.

I took Bio I my sophomore year due to switching my major from Chemistry to Biology. I scored an A-.

Biology II Tutoring

I took this course (labelled as "Concepts in Genetics" at Rowan) and scored a B-. My final semester's course-load included microbiology and biochemistry, both of which are a higher-tier version of Bio II and more difficult; I scored better than a B- in both.

Chemistry I Tutoring

Scored an A- at Rowan University.

Chemistry II Tutoring

Scored a B at Rowan University. I also took Organic Chemistry I and II, scoring a B- in the former and a C+ in the latter.

English Tutoring

I've taken AP English my senior year of high school. I performed well in the class but did not take the AP exam for it, so the courses I completed in college are as follows:

College Composition I: A
College Composition II: A
Introduction to Sociology: A-
Reading in British Literature: A
Reading in US Literature: A
Cultural Anthropology: A
Essentials of Psychology: A-

Genetics Tutoring

My genetics experience includes Bio II (B), Intro to Biochem (B) and Biochem (B-).

Microbiology Tutoring

While Micro was one of the more demanding courses, I scored a B+ in it, and it was certainly the course I found most interesting that semester.

Philosophy Tutoring

As my minor, my course-load for philosophy-related course can be found here:

Introduction to Philosophy: B+
Introduction to Ethics: A-
Scientific Communication: A
Philosophy of Mind: B-
Philosophy of Science: A-

Writing Advance Tutoring

My academic career has been chock-full of intense writing, to the degree it can't be properly described here. This includes short stories, poems, lab reports, formal journal-style scientific studies, term papers, and so on. I excel at most forms of writing.

AP English Tutoring

Scored an A, but opted out of taking the end-of-year AP exam.

AP History Tutoring

Specifically Western Literature I and II, I scored an A- in both of these courses.

Biology Tutoring

I took Advanced Bio I (with a score of B) and II (with a score of B again) my sophomore and junior years of high school, respectively.

Biology AP Tutoring

I took this course my senior year, and received a B-.

Chemistry Tutoring

Chemistry was a big part of my life in high school. My junior and senior years I took AP Chemistry I and II, respectively. Both of these were taught by the same teacher. She was beyond wonderful in every way, and paved the way for my lifelong interest not only in the sciences, but as education writ large.

Science Tutoring

I'm intensely interested in the sciences, and the courses I took for college and high school are able to be viewed on my profile.

Study Skills Tutoring

Study skills were honed, for me, during an after school course called Enrichment during 4th-6th grade. This course was reserved for top-performing students, in which we did very fun but very challenging puzzles and games, made projects for the rest of the school, assisted each other in learning materials, and other associated skills.

Writing Tutoring

Writing is another deep passion of mine, and one that I've admittedly had longer than that of science. I'm very well versed in most forms of high school and college level writing.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

As this goes along with my reading/writing passion, helping students with their reading comprehension (or literary skills in general) is something I am very comfortable with.

Social Studies Tutoring

I've been a lifelong history buff, so I've become accustomed to general topics covered in most grade-school level history classes.
