One thing that most people wouldn't know about me is that I played bassoon for four years in high school and one in college. I still enjoy making music, and it is a really important part of my life. I also enjoy hanging out and walking along the lake.
About Me
I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, and I have a passion for Economics. I majored in Economics and earned a 3.59 GPA in the subject. I was on the Dean's List for Fall 2010, and I wrote a senior thesis on the Economics of Education. I am interested in teaching college students before I start a graduate program in Economics next Fall, and my career goal is to become a university professor.
I do not have formal one-on-one chicago">tutoring experience, but I have lots of experience explaining Economic theory to peers. The first two years I spent in the Mathematical Methods in Social Sciences program (a selective-enrollment Economics-related program) were with a tight-knit group of 20 incoming Freshmen where we all learned together. I got experience explaining very difficult economic concepts to peers and learning from them. I also wrote several large research papers where I had to be very clear about the subject I was writing about. I think my ability to explain Economic concepts very well is my strength, and it would make me an excellent chicago">tutor.
I think the student should set long and short-term goals and create a schedule that distributes the workload evenly. The student and I should set a schedule of how many pages to read each day and what practice problems to do. For me, the most important thing is to help the student understand key concepts and be able to apply them. If the student completes the work in time, then he or she can get ahead of schedule on new concepts. Providing positive feedback and keeping the student motivated is essential.
