Fun Facts
I'm really into the outdoors! Nature, wildlife, travel/adventure, hiking, biking, and photographing my experiences. I have a lot of cool stories to tell of the jobs that I've had throughout high school, undergrad, and my graduate career. I love talking about all the different types of wildlife I've had the privilege in being able to work with. I really enjoy playing chess and reading fiction/fantasy.
About Me
Just finished my MS thesis in Biology this past April 2020. I've come from a pretty diverse background. I originally went for my undergraduate degree in medicine, which I have quite a bit of knowledge in still, but then switched to ecological research once I was given a more in depth view of what that was. I was on the Dean's List for 3 years straight. I participated in our chess club and outdoors club. And I have a lot of experience in research in biology and other fields.
Experience
I've held multiple positions as a research assistant/volunteer in my career. I have been able to travel nationally to participate in research programs. I've held internships in both federal and private organizations within my field. I have been a research assistant at the graduate level for a few years now, where I study sensitive species and how our management systems affect them. I currently teach intro bio lab at the university and volunteer as a science mentor to junior high students.
Approach
I struggled in school from grade school to high school with un-diagnosed ADD. But after I was diagnosed and received treatment, I've had a tremendous amount of academic success! My past challenges have given me a pretty good idea on how to handle like situations. I'm very hands on, and I guide students to solve problems in their own ways. Teaching in this way allows students to build their own unique problem solving abilities instead of being reliant on a system designed for someone else.
