Fun Facts

My tennis team won the Ohio Division 1 State championship. Running is my therapy. Whenever I am stressed or overwhelmed I always take a quick jog to help ease my mind. I have tutored in three different states (Ohio, Michigan, Florida). My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting. My dream is to go to outer space.

About Me

My name is Maxwell Rectenwald and I am currently a second semester sophomore at the miami">University of Miami! I am an enthusiastic student who enjoys teaching just as much as learning. I was born and raised in Toledo, OH, where I went to a catholic gradeschool. I then went to a jesuit high school where I played tennis and was a member of the debate team, mock trial team, vocal ensemble, chorus, and math counts team. I am currently a member of two honors societies and a member of an investing club and the ethics society.

I have been a miami">tutor since my sophomore year of high school. At St. John's Jesuit, there was a peer-miami">tutoring program where students could help other students in regards to various subjects. I also was a note taker, and provided miami">tutoring and notes for students with disabilities. My miami">tutoring career continued into college where beggining second semester of my Freshman year I became a member of the Academic Resource Center staff at the miami">University of Miami. There I was a miami">tutor for a variety of subjects. I also am a private miami">tutor and have been hired to help students with specific assignments. I am very happy with what I have been able to accomplish and I hope I can continue to help students better themselves.

If there was one miami">tutoring approach that would work with every student, my job would be a lot easier. However, every student is different, and each requires a different approach. Some students like visual learning such as diagrams and some learn from constant practice. This means that patience and persistance become two key traits that I practice when growing accustom to a students learning style. After assessing how a student learns, I like to review material in a very structured fashion. This structure is necessary for learning, and I use it as a guide and give examples also. I have found that this style helps the student build confidence.
