Fun Facts
I love the natural world around us and jump at any excuse to be out in it. I love to hike, camp, backpack, snowboard, snowshoe, and rock climb. I also love to read and paint. My favorite book is "The Count of Monte Cristo."
About Me
In December 2010, I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have since then worked as research assistant/analyst at the University of Utah. I am currently taking a break from school, but plan to go back to get my Ph. D in Ecology to pursue various research interests.
The extent of my tutoring experience is informal. I have always tutored friends and my younger brother throughout my college education. I have always been the one in a study group teaching the group how a certain reaction works or concept is played out in a cell.
When I tutor, I try to communicate my passion and love for the subject. If I can get a student excited about a subject they were formerly struggling with then that is when they grow the most. Personally, the teachers that have impacted my life the most were those that were passionate about their subject and that passion was contagious. I begin with a very general instruction of the subject and teach it over and over adding more in-depth detail with each repetition. Using this method, the information is concreted into a students mind through repetition and never overwhelms an individual. I communicate concepts best through pictures and drawings, so I'll show up with lots of scratch paper and pencils. However, my tutoring is dynamic and if a concept is not being received I can alter my tutoring style to cater to the student’s learning type.
