Fun Facts

I consider myself a creative person and am "addicted" to Pinterest and crafting. I also love sports, but my athletic abilities are not quite up to par so I stick to watching them. I grew up in Cincinnati and am a huge Reds and Bengals fan. But most importantly, I love to cheer on the Buckeyes.

I have known that I've wanted to be a teacher since I was six. My favorite game growing up was "school" and I automatically was assigned the teacher role every time I played it. Since then my inter

About Me

I am a junior at Ohio State University and I am studying Early Childhood Education and Spanish. My current GPA is a 3.96. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2015 and I plan to begin teaching upon graduation. I will be licensed to teach grades K-3 and am so excited to start my career. I have a great deal of experience working with kids both inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. I have already done a field placement in a first grade classroom and am currently in a preschool classroom.

I have formal columbus">tutoring experience in Reading and Mathematics with elementary aged students as well as college students. I am a columbus">tutor for Ohio State's Elementary Mathematics course. So I columbus">tutor college students in how to teach math to grades K-3. I have also tutored a third grader in reading weekly. While I did not have the title of a "columbus">tutor," I would say that I helped the students in all subject areas when I did my field placement in first grade in 2012. In high school I tutored all subject areas to other high schoolers as well.

I would say that I have a student centered columbus">tutoring approach. I find that sometimes it is easy to simply tell students how to solve a problem (in regards to math). However, what really helps the student is if they are guided. Questioning is a strategy I use to help students go forward in a problem without explicitly giving them the answer or method. I think that there are many approaches to solving a problem or learning information. I believe in playing to a child's learning style. If the child is a visual learner, we can draw pictures and graphs for math, or find pictures and handwrite notes for other subjects. Differentiated instruction is an amazing method and helps each child learn in their own way.
