Fun Facts
I love movement, whether it's in the form of traveling across the world or simply dancing in my room. Since college I've visited South and Central America for service trips, research for school, and tourism. Thailand is my next destination of interest! Additionally, I've dabbled in many different dance forms, the latest of which is contact improvisation, and I'm also a certified yoga instructor.
About Me
I went to college in Portland, Oregon and moved to Austin a little over a year ago to work for AmeriCorps. I fell in love with Austin and, when my AmeriCorps term ended, I was lucky enough to find a job teaching yoga and austin">tutoring elementary students. Although my undergraduate degree was in Cultural Anthropology, my real world work experience has persuaded me to go back to graduate school in the counseling field within the next couple of years.
Since college, I've tutored a wide range of ages, from kindergardeners to middle-aged ESL learners. Currently, I austin">tutor 1st-3rd graders in math, reading, writing and ESL. My students are bright and multitalented, and I love learning about their unique interests and incorporating them into whatever material we're trying to learn.
As a austin">tutor, I attempt to develop a comfortable atmosphere in which students feel safe asking questions, sharing opinions and cultivating their curiosity. I've always loved the process of learning myself, including the discipline and mental focus needed to solve an equation or memorize vocabulary words. Through positive reinforcement and disciplined guidance, I hope my students will take ownership of what they're learning, be inspired by the endless opportunities to learn, and, more practically, perform better in school and come to feel successful and confident in their academic abilities.
