Fun Facts
I was born and raised in Queens, NY, where I've come to love NY and its mix of cultures. Growing up in a Surinamese Christian home, I learned a lot about how to serve and care for others and the beauty of the Dutch language. Throughout middle school and high school, I participated in different talent shows by singing, and I even had the opportunity to be a part of the High School Vocal Group at the Frank Sinatra Summer Arts Institute. It was then I discovered my passion for singing and teaching!
About Me
I recently errand my bachelor's degree in Psychology, and my goal is to receive my master's degree in Education and possibly teach elementary school in an impoverished country. I love working with children with behavioral/non-behavioral concerns, it's my joy to see a child excel in their aspirations. I strive to build a good relationship with my students to ensure they are receiving the best education catered to their needs and learning abilities.
Experience
For the past three years, I've worked in The Child Center of NY. I had the privilege of teaching, supervising, and leading children with behavioral/non-behavioral concerns from the ages of 5-8 years old. I've organized and lead play-based sessions, as well as facilitated tutoring and after-school activities for program participants. I was an academic tutor for 6 years, tutoring low-performing students individually and in groups, ages 6-15 in intermediate math and English.
Approach
As a child, I struggled in school and found learning to be problematic. In middle school, I was fortunate to have a math teacher who, with patience and kindness, helped me realize my true potential. As a teacher and tutor, I bring this same attitude to my students. Knowing that not all children learn in the same, I tailor my approach to fit the need of the child. I work to understand my students and what motivates them to thrive, through optimal communication and relationship building.

Bachelors in Psychology
English Tutoring
I've taken several courses in this area including, Intro to College writing, Composition II: Writing Lit, Intro to Creative Writing, Intro to Anthropology, Intro Multicultural Studies, Western Civilization, Socia Psychology, Intro to Sociology and Foundation of Research in Psychology. I average a 3.18 GPA. With this knowledge, I will am able to both tutor and counsel a child through their work, providing different tips and strategies on how to improve their grades and reach their goals.
Homework Coach Tutoring
With over 6 years of experience in tutoring students from the ages of 6-15 years old, in subject areas such as English, math and some sciences. Coaching them through their homework and studies, helping them to improve on their daily and weekly assignments. Improving their course grade a letter up as well as increasing GPA score.
Math Tutoring
I've consistently excelled in math throughout grade school, averaging 80 and above in my math courses and test scores. In addition, I've tutored students from the ages of 6-15 years old introductory math and intermediate math, dramatically increasing the grades and test scores in citywide exams.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I've taken courses that contained a vast amount of critical reading and thinking, such as Independent Studies & Experiment Research in Psychology, History in Psychology, Research in Psychology and Western Civilization in Cultural Diversity, all of which I average a 3.58. Based on this, I will be able to help the student with vocabulary, content and overall comprehension of their reading material, as well as help improve their reading skills.
Study Skills Tutoring
Since I have over 6 years of experience in tutoring, coaching, and teaching in an afterschool program, I've had the privilege of seeing students and participants improve tremendously academically in the areas of test taking. I have a method of using repetition and recall to improve memory for test taking, and so far it helps improves not only my test scores when I was in College but as well of those in elementary school.
