Fun Facts
I love Miami! I have lived here for 2.5 years and am constantly looking for new ways to explore the city. Some of my favorite things to do are: running on the Venetian causeway, biking to South Beach, yoga in Bayfront park, and exploring the broad variety of cuisine.
About Me
I moved to Miami 2.5 years ago as a member of Teach for America, a national corps of young teachers looking to make an impact in an under-resourced public school. During my two years of teaching, I obtained my Masters degree in Education and Social Change from the miami">University of Miami. I currently work for an education non-profit as the Literacy Manager. In this role I support and coach over 125 English miami">tutors in implementing effective, data-driven interventions.
I taught middle school English to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for two years. I currently work as the Literacy Manager for a national education non-profit. Part of my role is to travel to the 17 schools where we place miami">tutors, and observe, coach, and provide feedback.
My miami">tutoring approach is based on the notion that the student should leave the session more exhausted than I am. I believe I am there to model, probe, and coach the student to critically think but not to provide them with the answer. My philosophy on teaching new material is to explicitly model the skill I am teaching, work together with the student to solve, and then gradually release the student to work independently. I love to utilize graphic organizers and high-interest topics as well.
