Fun Facts

A fun fact about me is I love to travel. My least favorite place to travel to Costa Rica. It is beautiful, but too many alligators for me. In the summer, you can find me in the pool. My grandfather was a Baptist minister who loved to dance at home. He taught at Hardin Simmons University. My grandmother was a high school English teacher and principle. She was in public school teaching for 42 years. She taught me how to teach. I was never allowed to chew gum.

About Me

I am a education/texas/mansfield">special education teacher. I have tutored for STAAR, AVID, and general tutoring for grades K-8. I Homework organization is a part of what I teach my students. I have been teaching for 6 years. In the Fall, I will start in TCU's doctoral program for Educational Leadership. Prior to education, I spent 23 years in nursing. Reading and microbiology are my two favorite subjects. My grandparents were upper-level educators. My GPA in grad school was 3.93, reflective of one grade of a B.

Experience

I have been teaching for 6 years for grades K-8. I have been praised for my student's progress in their overall reading. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a business degree in Entrepreneurship with administration. I have tutored many different students. I stay after school and tutor my own students most days. I have a Master of Science in Teaching with a specialization in education/texas/mansfield">special education. My students always show growth. I work full-time as an elementary teacher.

Approach

My approach is adjusted depending on how the student learns and praises. I like a mutual respect atmospher. I do expect effort and failure is not an option. I teach organization, proper note-taking, and project planning. I will discuss personal educational goals with the student. We will create a SMART short-term goal together. That goal will be tracked and progress monitored. I might assign homework based on our work. I work with all learning styles including learning disabilites.
