Fun Facts
I caught the travel bug early growing up in a household that cherished opportunities to visit foreign destinations and explore new cultures and scenery. I've roasted marshmallows over lava-cracked crags in Guatemala; swam with curious sea lions in the Galapagos; and quoted lines from Monty Python while standing atop ancient Swiss castles. As a result of the enjoyment I get from my trips abroad I am always planning my next adventure!
About Me
I love my home town of Portland dearly and I always appreciate that I can come back here anytime I tire of living elsewhere. After I graduated from Lincoln High School, and their IB program, I spent four years on the east coast attending connecticut-college">Connecticut College before departing for Central America to serve in the Peace Corps. Since returning to the Pacific Northwest I've become involved with local non-profits, carrying on grassroots efforts to improve our local community.
I've always been driven to discover how things work, whether it be understanding natural systems or the function of human societies. Owing to the outdoor culture in this region my curiosity first and foremost developed around the life sciences. I'm excited to share my passion for learning, and have previously worked with both middle and high school students portland">tutoring individuals in environmental studies and biology as well as creating and delivering science curricula to entire classes. I have also been a recipient of portland">tutoring and appreciate the potential frustrations of struggling to understand new material.
After spending an entire summer leading education and other programing for 14-year-olds I've come to the conclusion that there is no age more fun or challenging to work with. I thoroughly enjoy connecting with my students over real world applications of their class material, and I think it is vital to provide context to their studies beyond what might be covered in class. I have high expectations for my students and work hard to provide them with adequate support and encouragement that's balanced with fun.
