Fun Facts

I played classical piano for 22 years and own 3 snowhoe siamese cats. I studied abroad in Italy in College, and have visited there 3 times. I've worked in clinical research for pharmaceutical companies for cancer for about 6 years.I left M.D. program to do clinical research at MD Anderson after that. I am good at working with many kinds of students and issues. I try to be very proactive and positive in my tutoring.

About Me

I am a licensed chemical dependency intern, who has an extensive 15 year history in basic and clinical research. I attended 3 years of M.D. program and then decided to use that knowledge to work in clinical research, primarily in oncology. I attended University of Texas at Austin and received a BA in Psychology with Honors in Neuroscience, followed by Neuropharmacology graduate studies at UTMB, and then the M.D. program was at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Experience

I currently tutor a 7th grader in math, science, and language arts. When I was in graduate school I tutored middle school subjects. I have been told by students that I am an effective teacher and communicator and have a lot of patience. I have 2 years of SAT VERBAL tutoring, and this is actually my most favorite subject to tutor. My tutoring assistance has resulted in significantly higher standardized test scores for many SAT verbal students I have helped.

Approach

I try to be a positive role model for the students. I am encouraging and reinforce their strengths and work with them on improving their weaknesses. I think it's really important to know how to learn and how to effectively study with good time management.
