Fun Facts
Many people are surprised when I tell them that I have played ping pong competitively since junior high school. I grew up in Japan, and ping pong is a major sport in schools there. I still play with people here every week to keep my skills! I even created a ping pong club at SBCC and teaching students how to play well. I also love hiking and hike at least once a month with a hiking club!
About Me
I study physics at Santa Barbara City College as a first-year student. Although college is said to be hard, because of my experience in schools in Japan, I am confident in studying well in all the classes I am taking. My plan is to transfer to UC Berkeley after one more year of studying at SBCC and obtain a Ph.D. in physics to become a theoretical physicist. It is still rare for women to be a physicist, but I am hopeful and have the passion to accomplish my goal!
Experience
I have been helping my sister and my friends at school so often that I am very confident in saying that I am good at tutoring. My strength is math and science with the skills obtained in Japanese junior high and high school. In fact, I was one of the top students in high school. My first official tutoring was when I was in Dos Pueblos High School, a high school in Goleta. I helped students with math and science and learned some tutoring skills such as the use of questions to let students think.
Approach
I love math and science and know how important it is to understand and imagine the situation in each problem conceptually before start solving them mathematically. This is why I try to make sure that someone I help with knows "why" and "what" they are doing when they use math and formulas. I do not only help students succeed in the subject but help them feel accomplished and love the subject when they finally understand and obtain the skill to solve similar problems from then on.

Physics
Calculus I Tutoring
I took AP Calculus AB, which corresponds to calculus 1 and passed the AP exam with a 5. I learned the material in Japan even before I took the class at high school AP class in Santa Barbara. Basically, I learned the material twice. Therefore I am very familiar with the content. Many of my friends came to get help from me in high school because our teacher was not very good at teaching in classrooms, and I became experienced in helping others with this subject.
Calculus 2 Tutoring
I just finished Calculus 2 at SBCC and received an A. My scores for the exams were all above 95% including one 100%. I helped many classmates with this class to understand the material and the strategies to tackle problems. Once my instructor wanted me to explain a problem in front of the class and he was very happy about the way I described with the deep understanding of the content.
Chemistry I Tutoring
I took chemistry in Japanese high school, which is almost the same level as college chemistry and received an A. Now I just finished general chemistry 1 at SBCC with an A and the overall percentage of above 95%. I can explain the material both mathematically and conceptually.
Physics I Tutoring
This is almost my third time learning similar subjects in physics. First was in Japan, the second was in high school here at AP Physics 1, which I passed the exam with 5, and this Physics class at SBCC. Therefore I am very familiar with problems and concepts. I received an A in the class with exam scores all above 90% including one 100%.

I can help any math before college level calculus because I made sure that I understand each material thoroughly in different math classes. I received A's in all math classes so far in my life. I have helped my friends and classmates understand the contents and figure out the ways to approach problems. I can also help others by teaching simpler and more effective ways of memorizing formulas.

I scored 790 in math section in SAT and only missed 2 problems. It was very simple because I understood all the materials. SAT is not as difficult if you practice and remember your past learning cumulatively, which I can help students with.

I have developed my own studying habits and grits through school experiences in Japan. It can be very competitive and stressful in Japanese schools when it comes to studying, but there are efficient ways of memorizing and testing yourself. I can help students with managing time in studying and taking better notes along with tutoring different subjects.
