Fun Facts
As long as I can remember I've been able to read and to intertwine my toes. My college roommate was so impressed by the latter that she used my feet as the subject of her final project in drawing class. I play bridge and edit novels.
About Me
I graduated from Vanderbilt University magna cum laude with a major in psychology and a minor in French. At Vanderbilt, I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. My plan was to teaching gifted students so I tried to learn something about every academic discipline. Then I went to the University of Georgia where I earned an M.Ed. in educational psychology and an Ed.D. in education of the gifted.
Experience
Across four states I taught students in grades from 1st to 12th in a variety of subjects. I've also taught in four colleges, mostly in teacher preparation programs. My favorite courses were Educational Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and Teaching Science in Elementary and Middle Schools.
Approach
I use traditional approaches to build a firm foundation for further learning -- and I can explain in child-centered terms why we need to do this. I use modern strategies to build concepts and promote problem-solving.
