Fun Facts

Something that might be surprising about me is that I love getting my hands in the dirt and gardening! While I love reading, writing and researching, spending time in nature and with plants helps me feel grounded. This is probably true about me because I am from Vermont, where there are lots of farms! I also love playing guitar, dancing, and cooking up whatever I'm growing in my garden.

About Me

I am a recent graduate from the University of Puget Sound. I majored in African American Studies, and graduated Cum Laude and with honors! I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, so in the meantime I'm working as a research assistant at UPS and on a local organic vegetable farm.

Experience

I have always loved working in collaboration and mutual support in educational settings. In college I was able to hone in my skills when I took a class about inequality in American education. During the class, we learned different tutoring and mentoring techniques and then were able to practice them out in the field at a local school. I hope to someday become a teacher so that I can encourage critical thinking and support students to navigate their educational experiences with ease.

Approach

While I have always loved learning, I have not always had the easiest time absorbing information through lectures and textbooks. Because of this, I have become aware of many different learning styles. I am creative when it comes to helping others figure out their own learning style, and in trying out new things when something isn't working. Besides helping students with comprehending material, I am passionate about helping with study habits and time management skills.
