In addition to learning languages, I love to travel and experience cultures. I have been to over 10 countries. To this day I have friends my travels. Best fries? Belgium. Best ancient ruins? Bulgaria Best nightlife? France
About Me
I have always loved school, travel and learning languages and so it made perfect sense for me to become a high school world language teacher. I have taught Spanish and French for over 13 years and worked with a variety of students in different situations - the high school and middle school classroom, after school and summer programs as a tutor, and ESL and adult ed tutoring.
Experience
I have taught a variety of levels including French & Spanish 1, 2 and 3 as well as Spanish 4 and 5 and Spanish 5 AP. I have worked with aligning curriculum to our Performance-based standards (Understanding by Design). For five consecutive years I helped organize and chaperoned a Spanish-language immersion trip to Costa Rica. I have also tutored ESL for several years for children, adolescents and adults.
Approach
I understand that language learning is an easier task and more enjoyable for some students than others. I determine how each of my students feels about language learning and then I tailor lessons based on his or her individual needs. I always try to make each lesson as enjoyable as possible.

I completed the honors English program in my undergraduate studies. I have excellent reading comprehension of a variety of texts (novels, essays, poems, etc.) and am also a strong essay organizer and writer.

II have taught ESL for over 10 yeas as part of the Mass Migrant Education Program, teaching ESL to Out of School Youth (ages 16-22). I have also taught ESL to middle and high school students. as well as adults. My MA certification to teach ESL is only pending the completion of a 150-hour internship of which I have completed 90 hours.

In college I always maintained a 3.8 or higher in French. I have taught French 1, 2 or 3 every year for almost 14 years. I stay current in the language by listening to French radio and reading current events in French.

I have completed essentially Portuguese 1 as part of my own self-study of the language. I am able to read, write and speak on a basic conversational level.

As part of my extensive experience with tutoring, I have taught reading comprehension to a variety of age groups in English, French and Spanish. I help students develop strategies that work effectively for them to better understand what they have read.
