Fun Facts
I grew up in sunny California, halfway between Disneyland and the Pacific Ocean, so I admit it was fun-filled. It’s where I learned to surf in the summer and ski in the winter. But my greatest passion is traveling and learning from people in other cultures. As a full-time educator, I have taught English in Egypt and within the Native American community in the US. Summer vacations took my husband, who is also a teacher, to Mexico, Spain, Ecuador, England, and France but we hope to discover Asia
About Me
I am a retired teacher who loves helping my students reach their educational goals. I specialize in GED. HISET, HESI, TEAS, IELTS test prep. I also teach ESL at a local community college. I use pre-tests to identify which topics the student needs and practice tests to monitor progress. ESL classes can be tailored to focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, or a combination.
Experience
I have 5 years' experience teaching social studies, science, math, and language arts to adults seeking to pass their GED. I have helped numerous students study for their nursing school entrance exams. Currently, I am an ESL instructor at a local community college here in New Mexico. I spend extra time helping my students with vocabulary and pronunciation. As an online tutor, I teach English to students from all over the world who need help with accent reduction, vocabulary, and grammar.
Approach
Each student is unique and comes to the table with different strengths, weaknesses, and goals. I like to build on the student’s strengths and help them remain confident and flexible in their ability to learn new things. But I also make sure my students are enjoying themselves in class so my lessons are created from topics that are interesting to the them. I use pre-tests to discover the student's area of need and practice-tests to monitor progress in those areas.

I earned a Masters Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. I have tutored GED students who were preparing for the Reasoning Through Language Arts test.

I have taken College Biology I, Biology I lab, Biology II, Biology II lab, Botany I, Botany I lab with grades ranging from 85-95%. As a student living in Florida, I studied the ecosystems along the Gulf of Mexico and within the Everglades.

I've taught writing skill to adult students seeking to pass their GED exams. These skills included determining the main idea and recognizing supporting sentences, author's purpose, drawing conclusions, predicting outcomes, and creating summaries.
I teach these skills to students in my ESL classes.
