Fun Facts
One of my current hobbies is trail riding. I occasionally ride at Oleta State Park and Amelia Earhart Park. I just recently ran the Miami Half-Marathon on one week of training. My conditioning was good but my feet, calves, and quads were not used to the long distance running, so it was a rough but humbling experience. I'm looking to train and run the full Miami Marathon next year.
About Me
I am currently working towards my Masters in Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University and currently have a 3.625 GPA. I'm working on my thesis in Tissue Engineering with a focus on developing a novel polymer based gene therapy system. I am being inducted into the AEMB (Alpha Eta Mu Beta) National Biomedical Engineering Honor Society. I completed my undergrad at the miami">University of Miami and received a B.S. in Biology. I graduated with a 3.2 overall GPA. I worked for three years at the Miami Project at the miami">University of Miami Miller Medical School conducting research on neuronal regeneration in an effort to finding a cure for paralysis.
My miami">tutoring experiences in graduate school consists of group study and miami">tutoring sessions among my peers, where we miami">tutor and help each other to understand the theories behind many difficult math and science concepts such as non-linear dynamics, biofluid transport, and tissue engineering. During my undergrad at the miami">University of Miami, while taking Calculus 1&2 I would have weekly study sessions where I would miami">tutor my classmates and peers to better their understanding of the material. In high school, I volunteered at a foster home where I was teaching elementary school kids math and science concepts. I also occasionally miami">tutor my 6 year old niece in math and reading (such as learning sight words).
I believe a miami">tutor’s main focus is to coach the students in a way that engages them into actively thinking and doing their own work. miami">Tutors are to focus on the students learning and not on the demonstration of our knowledge. My miami">tutoring approach is to help a student in developing a deeper processing of the information—to thoroughly understand the meaning behind what they’re studying. Instead of demonstrating concepts or ideas, I would instead ask questions that would force the student into thinking deeply about what they’re learning. I believe that the best way to learn a concept is by being able to explain it yourself. By gu
