Fun Facts

Although I work in education, I am a classically trained singer and originally went to college to become an opera singer! My love of music has led me all over the world, from performing with a symphony in Tallinn, Estonia to working professionally as an actor and singer in educational musicals in my hometown of Atlanta. When I'm not working you can find me snuggling with my 20 pound cat, Tama, and perfecting my snickerdoodle recipe.

About Me

I am a recent graduate of Vassar College (2019) where I majored in art history with a minor in Asian studies. Within those disciplines, I focused on Japanese art as it intersects with global understandings of modernist and postmodernist theory. I plan to apply to PhD programs in Asian art history next year, eventually hoping to work as an independent curator, bringing research that originally only existed for a Japanese audience to the English-speaking world.

Experience

I discovered my love of education by working as a docent at Vassar's art museum for two years. I was instantly hooked, so during my senior year I worked in education at another art museum, Dia: Beacon. After graduating, I took a position as a science educator at Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Currently, I work for the Children's Museum of Atlanta as an outreach educator, leading lessons, acting, singing, and still doing science education on the weekends.

Approach

As someone who approaches education as a whole through the lens of arts education, I believe in thinking outside of the box. I fully believe that education is a collaborative process, and I often construct my lessons to allow my students the freedom to think about the greater implications of every lesson and to ask questions! Moreover, I believe that education is a lifelong process, and so learning how to learn (and how you as an individual learn) is just as important as learning the material.

Writing Advance Tutoring

As someone dedicated to the humanities at Vassar, almost every class I took was extremely writing heavy (upwards of 30 pages of writing per class). Consequently, I know how to write quickly and effectively about most subjects. Additionally, after graduating I have worked with many students on writing strategies for things from papers to statements of purpose.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

In college I specialized in the integration of modernist/postmodernist theory with contemporary art, which meant a lot of my work was about decoding dense theoretical texts and making them approachable. As someone who had to learn the strategies necessary to make it through Kant, I have a codified approach to text that can turn any reading into something you not only comprehend, but feel comfortable writing about with authority.

Arts Tutoring

I was an art history major in college, where I took classes from a survey of world art to seminars on contemporary curatorial theory. I studied under Dr. Molly Nesbit, working with her closely on various initiatives including my senior thesis (which I got an A on!). Additionally I have worked in a variety of art museums teaching about art within the museum setting. As someone with an extensive art history background, I can help you memorize any number of works or I can explain the technicalities of art writing.
