Fun Facts

I am a natural born teacher and a great entertainer. I love to read stories, listen to music and watch movies. I also like to write stories or just tell stories behind the art. My personal friends and family love to tell me "we're not your students" and yet they often come to me help help them understand a point and/or any given situation. I explain in a great and exciting, often fun way that they appreciate and learn from.

About Me

I am an English professor at Houston Community College. I have been teaching English full-time since 1990. I was the youngest English Professor hired. I have served in various capacities: Faculty member, assistant to the Chair, Division Chair of English, Humanities, Developmental English and the Egalitarian, the school newspaper, and Associate Chair of all English. I am a graduate of Texas Southern University a BA and MA in English. I am also a published writer.

Experience

I have taught an array of English, Developmental English and Humanities Classes including English Composition I and II, Co-Req Classes, Multicultural Literature, Women in Literature, Fiction and American Literature. I am an AP Reader for Educational Text Services (ETS). I have also taught Creative Writing (College Level and WITS-writers in the schools).

Approach

I didn't think I would be a teacher (professor), but I know it is my passion. As I look back at my life, I realize it is my calling. I teach not just English lessons but I combine this with life lessons. I learn from students as they learn from me. It's a joyful vocation.
