Fun Facts
I have always had a passion for learning about everything, and this has led me to live and travel around the world. These experiences have left me with the firm desire to devote my life to teaching. I also have a keen interest in sports, reading, and spending time with my family. On any given day, in my free time, you could find me watching a baseball game, curling up to a fantastic book, or out sightseeing with my family.
About Me
I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. After I graduated from University in 2002, I spent about 5 years traveling and working overseas. In late 2007, I came to the U.S. and have lived here ever since. I recently got my multiple subject teaching credential from San Jose State University, and while doing my course I spent a lot of time substitute teaching at public and charter schools.
Not only have I had a lot of substitute teaching experience, I have been tutoring and working with students for the past ten years. I taught English in Japan, Turkey, and Taiwan, and gained a lot of experience working with students of different cultures. I have also had a wealth of experience here in the U.S. where I have worked and volunteered at after school programs, tutoring centers, and public schools.
I believe in the tutoring philosophy of being well prepared and dedicated to developing a friendly, professional relationship with my students. To me, being prepared means showing up on time, being knowledgeable about the subject matter, and aware of the steps necessary to provide a successful and productive lesson. Furthermore, I believe that students should enjoy their tutoring while at the same time feel as though they got a lot out of the sessions. Learning does not have to be a chore; I believe it should be an enjoyable experience!
