Fun Facts

I love to learn new things: about anything - practically every subject interests me in some way. I am an avid reader, I love animals and the outdoors. I have played the piano since I was four and I like to pretend I can sing.

About Me

I attended Arizona State University for both my Bachelor's and my Master's. My Bachelor's was in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Science. I graduated with a 3.93 GPA. I return to school to earn a Master's degree in Mathematics Education. I graduated in May 2011 with a GPA of 4.0. My future goal is to become a full-time faculty in Mathematics at a Community or Junior College.

I began tucson">tutoring Mathematics in the Summer of 2002 at my local Community College in Phoenix, AZ. I was the primary tucson">tutor in the "Math Lab," the room where students in the developmental math courses (those below College Algebra) were encouraged to go to receive tucson">tutoring from individuals who were patient and experienced in dealing with developmental learners. I continued tucson">tutoring there throughout the years, which is what influenced my return to school to get my Master's in Mathematics Education. I discovered while I enjoy working with all levels of students, I really enjoy working with adults; particularly those who have always done poorly in Math. I became an adjunct faculty and am currently working with developmental math at PCC.

My tucson">tutoring approach is I never back down from a challenge. Students frequently comment I must be getting frustrated with their poor performance. Actually, it is quite the contrary: when students cannot understand a concept, that makes me more committed to finding a way to explain it so they understand. I have many tips and tricks I use to relate math concepts to real-world concepts in order to foster understanding. I have found if students can make a connection (even a silly one) to something they already know, can understand, or can imagine, it gives them confidence and ownership over their knowledge. Struggling students are communicating more to me what I am doing wrong, not them. I just need to find the right way to make it make sense to them as individuals.
