I did my first study abroad in the year 2012 for 5 and half months in Barcelona where I became incredibly confident with my spoken Spanish and was able to submerge myself into a few sub-cultures through my interests in the arts and skateboarding. This past summer I studied at the language school, Estudio Sampere in both Madrid and Alicante. I am also a professional photographer- munkphoto.com

About Me

I am a maryland/towson">Towson native, born and bred. Just for a little background information, here's a little bit of my history studying the Spanish language. I started studying Spanish at Dumbarton middle school for two years and then moved my way up to high school Spanish courses. Since then I have elected Spanish literature and linguistics as my major at maryland/towson">towson-university">maryland/towson">Towson University. I have been obsessed with learning the history, culture, dialects, etc. I am constantly watching movies, listening to new music, and podcasts.

As a former maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor in the Carrera program through Johns Hopkins in maryland/baltimore">Baltimore City I was an English maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor for inner city Hispanic youth. During these days I learned how to teach language through targeted interests. It was very difficult to motivate students to want to learn and we had to seek activities and exercises that made learning less of a chore. I know that learning a language requires great dedication and commitment but if you can find something personal within the language, culture and learning process that you would like to dedicate yourself to, it can evolve into something extremely rewarding.

Although I have always been interested in learning Spanish, after two years of classes within the traditional education system during high school I was deterred my pursuit of learning the language through the traditional education system. Since then I do wish I had stuck with it out of the sheer importance of practice and guidance. However, I learned how to teach myself and sought out new ways to enjoy learning the language through various methods such as music, movies and the arts in general. As a maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor I think that language should be something fun and enjoyable to learn, where conversation is key; after all, the purpose of language is communication. I would teach students the value of language and the vast doors that it opens in our world.
