Fun Facts

My favorite thing in all the world is to watch the "light go off" when a child has an AHA! moment. Teaching is my passion and I'm grateful to be living it. I teach 5th grade reading and writing, as well as help kids with math homework. My hobbies are reading (of course!), dancing (all kinds!), and outdoor activities including gardening and baseball. My favorite person to do this with is my awesome son, Isaiah, with whom I am extremely proud!

About Me

In 2015, I graduated from Texas A&M University - San Antonio, with a GPA of 3.9 and a 4-8th Generalist teaching certificate. I am a 5th grade reading teacher at Savannah Heights Intermediate School. This is the beginning of my 5th year, both as a certified teacher and for Savannah. My previous career in property management provided me with 20 years of successful accomplishments, as well as showing me my purpose in life...teaching. Therefore, I am living my ultimate goal!

Experience

In my previous career of property management, I worked with kids doing after-school activities and homework assistance. While attending college to become a certified teacher, I worked for John H. Wood Charter School as an Instructional Assistant. Most of my duties included working with small groups or one-on-one with students needing specialized help. Finally, I have four years as a certified reading teacher.

Approach

I believe all children CAN learn and WANT to learn. Most kids that think they don't like school or a particular subject feel this way because of lacking confidence in themselves. So, as a teacher, I always start with building trust and confidence. They need to see that they CAN do it! Once they're ready, I challenge them with more difficult tasks. This kind of progress promotes self-efficacy and intrinsic value.
