I'm one of those lucky people who absolutely loves his majors: Political Science and History. Before college, watching the history channel and checking the New York Times and Politico became a daily activity. I love to be outside and ride my bike along the Hudson River with friends and play basketball.

About Me

I am a sophomore at maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-college">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia College majoring in both Political Science and History and have been Dean's List every semester here. When I graduate, I hope to work on Capital Hill for a year or two (I worked there this past summer) and then go to Law School!

For two years in high school, I served as a Peer Tutor, a program which entailed teaching students in middle and high school in a wide range of disciplines. After an extensive application process, selected tutors were required to receive training on the variety of education philosophies and skills that students may possess. This helped inform many of my tutoring sessions as it allowed me to identify the specific learning style and adjust my teaching accordingly. During my time as a tutor, I taught in a variety of subjects and specialized in history and math.

There is not one tutoring approach that works for every student; for example, some need diagrams drawn to picture concepts while others just need to have it explained in another way with comparisons. Nevertheless, there are principles I think can be applied to any situation. First, positive encouragement is always necessary. Tutoring can be very frustrating and any student needs to feel as though they are making progress. Second, I make sure to never do the work, even if that means taking longer to go through each problem. It's quite easy to get through homework faster if the tutor helps along the way, but then the student doesn't understand the basic concepts then it wasn't beneficial. My goal is to ensure that any student will be able to understand the ideas on their own.
