Fun Facts
I am a huge fan of science fiction, be it TV, movies, books, or video games. I have been practicing karate for several years, and my wife and I spend a lot of time at the dojo. It's great exercise, and great for coordination. I've lived in Albuquerque for almost six years, and I love the spicy food.
About Me
I will soon be graduating with my Ph.D. in physics from the University of New Mexico, and I hope to start a career as a research scientist, perhaps for an engineering company, or a national laboratory.
As a graduate student at the University of New Mexico, I spent three years as a teaching assistant, where I assisted many students in their coursework. In addition, I was employed for several semesters by the Center for Academic Program Support, the university's campus albuquerque">tutoring service. My favorite thing about albuquerque">tutoring is watching a student arrive at an understanding of their subject, and succeed where they were previously frustrated.
The most frustrating thing for me about school is when material is presented without a good motivation or context. I try very hard to help the student understand what it is that they are learning, rather than merely finding the shortest route to the answer. I have found that understanding what question is being asked is the most difficult part of any problem, and will patiently guide the student to that place. That way, they can confidently solve their problem, as well as build the skills to understand any problem that comes their way.
