Fun Facts
Even though I am a musical theatre major, I adore math and the balance it brings to my life. I love trying new things to spice up my daily life, and my newest adventure has been learning how to play the violin. I am very proud of my handwriting, despite the fact that I am left-handed and write upside down. My weaknesses are peanut butter and sour patch kids, and growing up, Spongebob Squarepants was my everything.
About Me
I am finishing up my final semester at New York University, and will graduating in May, as a member of the class of 2014. My overall GPA is 3.703, and my Math GPA is 3.750. After college, I plan to pursue my two loves in life: acting and teaching. As a freelance tutor, I have come to learn how happy it makes me to explore math with other students. I believe I am such a strong tutor because I can draw from my both my academic strengths and my creative strengths.
I am currently freelance tutoring two students. One of them is a 4th grader who struggles in Math and English, and the other is a Senior at NYU who is struggling in Calculus. I love working with students who are on such different levels, because it allows me to develop a variety of tools and methods that are specific to each student, while maintaining flexibility as a tutor.
My 4th grader understands math quite well, but I have discovered she has difficulty trusting herself and her ability to complete problems on her own. I have constructed our lessons so that on Monday we can review her homework together, and on Tuesday I can provide her with Common Core practice tests, or problems I have created to strengthen her trust in herself. With my Senior, we review old tests and quizzes, I drill her on important definitions and concepts, and pick out important problems from the book and make her talk me through the steps. By speaking through the steps, she is able to cement her understanding of the material, rather than just listen to how I would solve the problem.
