About Me
California State University, Fresno
Major: Business-Option in Sports Marketing (Junior standing)
After I complete my undergraduate degree at Fresno State, I will be looking to achieve a Master's degree in either Management or Sports Nutrition, if they have it, at San Jose State. After I finish school, I hope to find a job as a marketing developer for an athletic apparel company like NorthFace. I am a two-time member of the Dean's List and I am currently the assistant manager at a Domino's pizza store.
Before high school, I found myself often being an overachiever in the classroom, but I preferred to keep it to myself because I didn't want to be called a nerd. In high school, I dismissed that notion and instead worked with a club called Link Crew that introduced freshman to high school and provided advice. In addition to that I was also a fresno">tutor for math and english for 2 years as a member of the National Honor Society. Even today I play the role of a fresno">tutor by training new employees at work and teaching them what they need to know to be successful.
My fresno">tutoring approach has always begun with explaining to the person what needs to be known. If it's catered to writing, key terms are important to be identified. For math problems, I prefer to provide a visual, step-by-step process so that the person can practice on their own without me there as long as they understand the steps. I also believe repetition and practice is important in learning something and I have always supported the flashcard method. My approach can best be summed up as 1) a descriptive walk-through and then 2) questions, then 3) allow them to practice on their own without giving away any answers until they are done so they can learn to solve problems independently. Once they have mastered basic principles, I seek to challenge them to encourage improvement in the particular subject.
