Fun Facts
Poetry has always been the most captivating of all my hobbies. It, to me, is the most beautiful form of expression. Whether it's written, sung, spoken, or performed (because I believe dance is a physical form of poetry), the insight I gain from poetry is irreplaceable.
About Me
As an undergraduate senior at the memphis">University of Memphis, I plan to soon graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with Honors. Next, I plan to further my education by attending graduate school in pursuit of a Ph.D in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Soon after, I hope to begin a successful career in this field, improving workplace performance and efficiency.
For the past three years I have worked closely with the Memphis Literacy Corps (MLC), a program which provides memphis">tutoring services to elementary school students (grades 3-5) in preparation for the TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program) Test. As a memphis">tutor with MLC, I primarily helped my students with reading-comprehension/tennessee/memphis">reading comprehension; however, I also made sure to provide the opportunity for assistance with other subject areas they may have struggled with in class. The experience I have gained from this program is unforgettable, as I enjoyed working with these students, helping them to achieve their goals.
My previous experience with memphis">tutoring has reinforced the idea that learning should not only be improved by interaction, but also by interest. It is nearly impossible to teach a student subject matter that bores him or her into a state of inattentiveness. My approach is to make learning interesting, so that the material learned actually "sticks". Games such as tic-tac-toe and hangman have proven to be activities enjoyed by my former students; but with the opportunity to work outside of the school-environment, I hope to use more personalized approaches in order to more effectively cater to each student's individual needs.
