Beyond education my passion is music. I play a variety of instruments including the guitar, drums, and piano. Creating fun songs to go along with a lesson has helped my students learn difficult material. I also love the outdoors. I like to go exploring and learn about different cultures. I also love to exercise and participate in group sports!

About Me

My name is Ashley. I am 30 years old and currently work as a teacher assistant within the CPS school district. I have my undergrad in Elementary Education and am working on a Masters in education/illinois/chicago">Special Education. The school I have been at for the last two years is preK-8, and I have worked with students in many different grade levels. I am very skilled at modifying lessons and concepts so that they meet the learners individual needs. I understand how important it is to get to know the student and create an environment built on t

I understand how important it is to get to know the student and create an environment built on trust so that the student feels free to explore in their learning without the fear of failure looming over them. I encourage my students to think for themselves and focus on making real-world connections.

As a volunteer chicago">tutor for CPS I participated in a homeward bound program where I have helped struggling students to re-enter school by going to their home and continuing their education. These students had previously dropped out and the goal is to get the student reintegrated into their mainstream classes. I have also been a mentor for a student with emotional and behavioral disabilities. We would get to meet every morning for 15 minutes to talk about ways to cope with difficult situations and emotions.
