Fun Facts
Frogs are my favorite animal, so it's fitting that I work for Frog Tutoring! I have 6 pet frogs that I've had since I was in 3rd grade when we raised them from tadpoles in science class. When I'm not caring for my frogs, I love to watch sports! I was in marching band in college and loved traveling the country with the football and hockey teams to watch them play. You can now find me at home or trying local restaurants watching as many football, basketball, and baseball games as I can.
About Me
I currently work as a research coordinator in the psychiatry department at the IU School of Medicine. My current project focuses on using virtual reality to treat kids with disruptive behavior disorders. I graduated with honors in April 2019 from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Cognitive Science and minors in science/indiana/indianapolis">Computer Science and Music. Eventually, I would like to get my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology or Human Computer Interaction but am still exploring my interests.
Experience
In high school, I taught Hebrew School for 4 years and taught piano lessons during the summers. In college, I had the opportunity to teach my own first year seminar on using games and gaming as an educational tool. For the past three summers, I have worked at a therapeutic summer camp. Every camper is taught 1 hour of reading and 1 hour of math each weekday, and I acted as 1 on 1 support for kids who needed extra help.
Approach
As a kid, I struggled with staying on task but learned how to make school work for me with the help of supportive tutors. I learned valuable study skills, gained confidence, and discovered how I needed things to be explained to me. I needed someone to be patient, try many different strategies to explain the same concept, and always take a step back and explain the big picture before focusing on the little details. As a tutor, I want to provide this level of support to whomever I work with.
