When I’m not teaching, I love being on the other end of the learning process: reading, attending seminars, taking classes, etc. I also love the outdoors, and often escape from the hustle of city life to hike, camp, bike and fish.

About Me

I am an experienced tutor and an enthusiastic university professor with experience working with diverse learners. A graduate of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, I am qualified to teach U.S. history, world history, world literature, geography and Spanish. I have experience tutoring students for the PSAT, SAT and ACT and my students have shown tremendous growth in test scores. I have taught language, literature and history professionally for 19 years. My strengths as an educator include creating hands-on interactive activities to help students understand the material, and working with low-level readers to build confidence and ability.

Approach

I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. 1) The teacher's role is to act as a guide. 2) Students must have access to hands-on activities. 3) Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. 4) Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. 5) Technology, when helpful, should be incorporated into the learning process.
