Fun Facts
I've visited 21 countries, including New Zealand and Australia. I've also backpacked through a lot of Europe. The only continent I have not yet visited is Africa. Along with traveling, I enjoy anything that gets me outside--hiking, camping, and rock climbing particularly.
About Me
I am a masters student in literary studies at the denver">University of Denver. I graduated with honors from Samford University in birmingham">Birmingham, Alabama, in 2011. After I finish my masters program, I plan to teach at a college or university, hopefully in the Denver area.
While in high school, I tutored an elementary school student in several subjects. My senior year of undergraduate I was a teaching assistant in a fiction and film class, leading discussion and occasionally lecturing. In graduate school, I've tutored adults and high school students in grammar, writing, composition, and standardized test preparation.
I feel it's important to start with basic concepts and structures, then work on ways to apply these to specific subjects. For example, when denver">tutoring students for standardized tests, we begin by learning the basic grammar rules seen on the ACT and SAT, then move to utilizing these rules in specific questions. This teaches students not only to see the similarities in questions and situations in which to apply what they have learned, but also how to take what they have acquired in one study situation and apply it to another.
