Fun Facts
Having a passion for English, it is no surprise that I love to write on my blog and in a journal, but I love just about any project that requires creativity and a hot glue gun. My favorite sport is volleyball, and my favorite thing to do is to take my almost 2-year-old daughter swimming. Being family-oriented through school has helped me stay focused, motivated, and enthused on graduating college and pursuing a career in education.
About Me
My major is English pre-education with a minor in professional writing. My current overall GPA is 3.61, while my major GPA is 3.77. I plan on pursing my teaching license in language arts after graduation and pursing various options for education experience such as columbus">tutoring and substitute teaching. I have been on Dean's List for 5 terms and have been accepted into the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and The Office of Diversity and Inclusion Campus Change Program, where I am a mentor to a group of scholars.
I have worked at two middle schools where I have had to assist with assignments the students are doing in class. Sometimes students and I will leave the classroom and go in the hallway or to the school library where we can work on understanding the directions for an assignment and relaying their ideas onto paper. I've had to assist students who need different learning techniques, some with attention disorders, and one that is learning English as a second language.
I've helped students to achieve their goals by listening to their needs, working with them to understand the topic, and creating a relationship where they know I care and am trustworthy. Learning to work backwards starting from what the child already knows and understands working outwards toward what they don't know helps both me and the student understand exactly where they are getting stuck so we can target his or her question. I believe in fostering independent thinking so that mere information can become knowledge on an individual level and the student can be self-sufficient when working on his or her own.
