Fun Facts
When I was 14, my family moved to Doha, Qatar, in the Middle East. My family lived there for 6 years, so I had the opportunity to finish high school and visit many times. I loved it! I came back to go to school in Fort Worth. I very much enjoyed my college and graduate school experience, and we go back for every home football game. Now I am married and live in Plano. We have a sweet 3 year old dog named Maggie. I love walking her and going to the dog park.
About Me
I graduated from TCU in 2010 and then finished my masters in 2011. My major was math-middle-school/texas/dallas">Middle School Math Education and my masters degree is in Middle School Education. I taught preschool in Frisco, TX for one year before beginning to teach math-middle-school/texas/dallas">middle school math. I teacher 8th grade math (on-level and honors Algebra) at a middle school in Plano. I was a dallas">tutor in college both privately and for an elementary school, working with students up through 8th grade. I currently dallas">tutor 8th grade students from my school.
I worked as an independent dallas">tutor in college as I was earning my degree. I worked with several struggling students over the summer and helped them solidify some concepts that they needed to move on. I also worked as an SSIG dallas">tutor for White Settlement ISD after I had my undergraduate degree. In this position, I worked in small groups with students who were at risk of not passing TAKS. Currently, I work individually or in small groups with 8th graders after school. I help them with homework or to keep up with skills that they will continue to need.
I first like to find out what the students thinks is the hardest part of their current math level. As teachers, we might see something as easy, but some students just have a harder time. I try to find new ideas to help the student see it in a different way. Since it is one-on-one, I have the opportunity to really get to know the student and find out where they are struggling, but also see where they shine. I encourage the student and reward them constantly to give them positive reinforcement for hard work. I try to build a trusting relationship with the student so that they are comfortable working with me and being honest.
