Fun Facts
Native Californian who moved to Michigan to attend law school. I immediately fell in love with the many lakes, trees, and definitive changing of seasons. So, I decided to make Michigan my home. I passed the Michigan bar exam on the first try, and worked as a Staff Attorney for a legal service organization, and a large dental insurance corporation. I love running! I have finished 6 half marathons and one full marathon in three different states. My goal is to run a half marathon in every state!
About Me
I am truly working my passion, which is working with students who have academic and/or behavior issues. Currently, I am a education/new-mexico/albuquerque">special education teacher for Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque Public Schools. I have taught students with varying levels of cognitive, visual, hearing, physical, and emotional impairments. These students have ranged in reading, writing, and math levels from pre-k to 7th grade.
Experience
I have over seven yeas of education/new-mexico/albuquerque">special education teaching experience in both elementary and high schools. My teaching journey began at Pioneer High School for Ann Arbor Public Schools where I taught a class of students considered to have mild cognitive impairments and had reading, writing, and math level ranging from 2nd to 7th grade.I am in fourth year teaching at Volcano Vista High School. Prior to that I taught for two years at a high school and elementary school for Albuquerque Public Schools.
Approach
My tutoring approach is that of a coach positively motivating students to build on what he or she already knows. I strive from the beginning to build a sincere rapport with my students that is focused on creating a safe, positive, nurturing environment, and find out what motivates them I expect students to have fun while working hard. Also, since no two students are the same in terms of academic strengths and needs, I differentiate instruction to fit the individual needs of each student.
