About Me
I am a freshman at GWU. I have a 3.41 GPA after one semester. I have not officially declared a major, but I'm interested in Spanish, music, and psychology. After college, I possibly want to teach English in a foreign country to broaden by view of the world and experience new things. I love working with children and encouraging them to to do the best they can, no matter the circumstances.
During high school, I was part of an organization called REACH where we tutored high school students every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I did this for three years washington-dc">tutoring chemistry, biology, algebra 2/trig, and Spanish. Starting in college, I began washington-dc">tutoring English at CentroNia, a bilingual institution in metropolitan DC. I still washington-dc">tutor there and am loving it! The kids and people there are great!
I think washington-dc">tutoring is a very individualized process. I try to base my approach on the particular student's needs. I first start by explaining the concepts/notes in the particular lesson at hand, ask a few general questions, work through a practice problem in the book alongside the student, and then lastly let them try a problem on their own and provide aid if they need it. Then I ask them if they have any specific problems/concepts that they still do not understand. It is so important to keep the child motivated while teaching them. If the child is having a difficult time, it's important to keep their spirits and confidence up!
