I am passionate about maintaining physical health, so I spend a good portion of my time training for marathons, doing hot yoga, rock climbing, and any other activities that get my blood pumping. I love to cook and bake! It's so much fun to try new recipes or experiment with new foods that are not only delicious, but also full of great nutrients. About Me
I graduated cum laude from washington/seattle">seattle-pacific-university">washington/seattle">Seattle Pacific University in August 2013 with a degree in Applied Human Biology and minors in Chemistry and Biological Anthropology. During my undergraduate career, I was a teaching assistant for seven different classes, most within the Department of Biology. Once I graduated, I accepted a position as an Adjunct Professor teaching laboratory sections in Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Animal Biology. I will begin graduate school in Fall 2014 at connecticut/durham">durham">connecticut/durham">Durham University in the UK.
As a teaching assistant for Human Anatomy & Physiology, Human Nutrition, General Microbiology, Environmental Physiology, Evolutionary Mechanisms, Christian Scriptures, and Women in Science, I have had extensive experience working with students to help them learn material and be successful in their classes. Now, as an adjunct professor, I am continuing to build on this experience and inspire students to learn new things while providing them the tools they need to be successful students.
As a TA and an instructor, I have always made it a priority to teach students how to think. This means that I never simply provide answers or do the work for students, but guide them through the work so that they learn to problem-solve and reason on their own. Additionally, I present students with tools to organize information in a way that makes sense to them. For science classes, this often involves drawing concept maps, flow charts, or other visual diagrams and teaching students how to use these resources to learn the material inside and out.
