After completing my Master's, I plan to continue to pursue licensure as per DC/MD/VA requires. I would like to work in a private practice, offering marriage and family counseling services. I also plan to travel after graduation!
My washington-dc">tutoring experience is limited. However, I have participated in various study groups which has afforded me the opportunity to assist others with outlining, comprehending, and synthesizing information. I have informally assisted many friends as an "unofficial editor" for papers, as well as presentations, throughout my academic career. I possess very strong writing skills, and am proficient at providing corrective feedback in various areas of subject matter.
Professionally, I have completed practicum placement in a school setting, where I provide individual, group and classroom instruction on various topics related to psychology and mental health.
My washington-dc">tutoring approach focuses on three basic areas: consistency, patience and integration of subject in meaningful ways. I tend to believe the most effective approach to teaching is holistic, meaning that I attempt to take into account the students strengths, learning style, interests and areas for improvement. I also attempt to enhance basic areas of study, which include organization skills and consistency. Session planning is extremely important, as it will provide a guided framework within which the washington-dc">tutor and student can work. The time spent together should be meaningful and effective. Additionally, I believe that creating a positive rapport with the student assist with engaging and motivating toward success. Positive reinforcement is helpful with regards to creating academic goals.
