As a Cognitivist Learning Theorist, I believe writers need to be able to activate beliefs and previous knowledge and transpose that into the assignment they are working on. This process of putting thoughts into words allows people to successfully defend their ideas. I have witnessed 7th graders to PhD students resist the idea that thinking needs to be done before writing can occur. Because of this resistance, and because I know how crucial it is for crucial it is for a learner to take an active role in their learning, I have adapted a teaching attitude that supports thinking by being organized and by being transparent.
