Fun Facts

I can say the alphabet backwards! I memorized it for fun during class in second grade one day, and it's stuck with me since. It became one of my earliest memory exercises.

About Me

I'm a journalist working for a think tank in Washington, D.C. In the past I've worked for numerous regional and national magazines (The Atlantic, The New Republic, Washington Monthly) where I edited, copy-edited, fact-checked, and wrote articles for the publications. In college, I studied English Literature, where I wrote for the campus newspaper, made Dean's list, and published a paper on race in midcentury American literature in an anthology of literary criticism from Salem Press. My ultimate goal is to become a magazine editor.

Experience

During university, I took a course on teaching writing in order to work at the Writing Center. I also spent some time tutoring elementary school students through Reading Partners in Baltimore City.

Approach

My approach to tutoring is holistic: I gear my style towards what's most beneficial for the student's learning style. For example, for an active learner, I tend to engage with them directly as I explain a concept so that they're learning as they practice, and can therefore follow those same steps during, say, an exam. I also try to prioritize what they care about. Studying becomes a lot more rewarding if you're investing time and energy to topics you care about, whether it be politics or sci-fi.
