Fun Facts
A fun fact about myself is that I absolutely love musicals! If I had the talent of singing and dancing, my alternate career would be performing on Broadway. I've seen Wicked and The Lion King on Broadway, and I plan to attend more Broadway shows in the future. Also, I've watched Pitch Perfect and Frozen about a million times and can pretty much recite every song word for word.
About Me
I currently attend Fresno State and my major is Speech-Language Pathology. I plan to graduate this May with my Bachelor's degree, and my career goal consists of attending graduate school to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I am a McNair Scholars and a member of Golden Key International Honour Society. I also collected date and conducted research for a poster on Vocal Hygiene in Professional Voice Users. I am an active member of National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association for 3 years, and held the offices of Member at Large and Vice President.
I worked as an After School Program Leader for a year, and I supervised and tutored children from kindergarten to 5th grade. I worked with numerous students and helped them with their homework and various assignments. Also, I volunteered at the Central California Center for Autism for a semester and learned techniques used by behavior therapists that are crucial for working with children with autism. I've also helped fellow classmates in class and prepared study groups to teach each other material and talk out solutions.
I've experienced first hand how it feels to not understand certain class assignments, and get frustrated because I don't understand what the teacher is talking about. It may take a student longer than other students to process information, which means that he or she needs to be taught a different approach to learning the material. I believe I have the patience and experience needed to work with students on a one-on-one level to help the student achieve academic success.
