Fun Facts

I really love Japan! I started teaching myself Japanese about 7 years ago using textbooks and YouTube videos. After I moved to Atlanta, I started volunteering with Japanese exchange students and teaching them about American culture. I made a lot of good friends through those experiences. I even visited Japan 3 years ago for Christmas and New Years. It is one of my dreams to be able to visit Japan again and have conversations with native Japanese people.

About Me

I recently graduated with my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Tech. I also have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. My goal is to develop new treatments for rare diseases by working as a computational biologist for a pharmaceutical or biotech company.

Experience

While pursuing my graduate degree, I was a Teaching Assistant for 2 years for Calculus and Differential Equations courses. I also had the privilege to mentor and tutor 2 high school students on a regular basis in math and science as part of Georgia Tech's Project ENGAGES. After I graduated, I started working as a private English, math, and science tutor for students and working professionals around Atlanta.

Approach

I have always been a visual learner. I find that if I can draw a picture of a concept, then it is much easier for me to understand. This has carried over into my teaching style. I always have a pencil and paper or a whiteboard and maker at the ready to draw what I am trying to explain. I believe encouragement and step-by-step progress are important. Even if a student struggles to get the complete answer, I think even small steps in the right direction should be celebrated.
